Between March 13th and march 21st 1913, there were at least 5 recorded tornado's that hit the Mid-State. Including the one that hit Downtown on March 21st. Much of the area suffered damages, including the First Presbyterian Church, the northeast corner of the square, and the "Home Journal" office. It is because of this tornado that many of the buildings around the square do not appear in their original glory. It is this tornado that forever changed the landscape of our county seat.
